Modular design is a new design conception and new design method. Base on the function analysis of products of different function or same function but different capability and different specification , a series of function modules were partitioned and designed . With the selection and compages of modules, different products were formed. To introduce the theory of modular design to the naval gun design , it will shorten the design period, improve the reliability, make for the technique update, enhance the maneuverability and maintenance capability, and greatly reduce the research cost.Firstly combined the actuality and foreground of modular design on naval gun in the nation and out the nation, the theory of modular design on naval gun was expounded after the basic modular design theory was systematic comprehended. The point of view and principle on the modular partition of naval gun was put forward. Based on the relativity analysis of naval gun parts, the modularize frame diagram of naval gun was established, function analysis and module partition were fulfilled. The research of restricting qualification on characteristic module parameter and module coding precept were gone along. The morphologic matrix on module synthesis of naval gun was established, and the rules on faintness synthesis judge of module synthesis scheme and correlative parameters were confirmed.The modular design of feed system on a large&middle caliber naval gun was carried out with applying the modular theory on naval gun, and the morphologic matrix on module synthesis of feed system was established, and the rules on faintness synthesis judge of feed system module synthesis scheme was confirmed. According as the consistent principle etc. and faintness synthesis judge, the optimal synthesis project was picked out. Furthermore, each module waw designed according as the design parameters. After the synchronization technique, navalball-replacing technique and joint technique were resolved, the prototype machine of modular multi-shell feed system with multi-direction feeding and single-direction raising was produced.The feed system prototype machine was tested, and the feed system prototype machine was validated by the performance of feeding velocity, navalball-replacing and dynamic concussion.
