With the rapid development of electric power system, the high voltage switch cabinet has been characterized by its simple constitution, small maintenance, fitness for a frequent manipulation and etc. It is popular with many customers, and becomes the mainstream among the oil-less high voltage switches. The 40.5kV high voltage switch cabinet is widely used for recent years because the electric power system cherishes high-capacity, high-voltage, and miniaturization much more. Insulation is one of the most important factors for the stabilization and credibility of power equipments. The insulation is a weak link in the equipment, and many faults have been caused by the insulation destroy. Thus an important and deserved problem in the design for a switch cabinet is to get a better insulation performance by configuring the bus bar, vacuum breaker and other elements properly. So that the high voltage switch cabinet will operate safely in the distribution system, then save the space as well.When analogizing the distribution of electric field by computer, the finite-element method is most important because of the simple and feasible subdivision, the applicability for several mediums and high computing efficiency. ANSYS is representing software by using the finite-element method. An automatic and universal analyses is attained by parameterize the model characteristics, adopting APDL, increasing analyzing efficiency.Based on the design feature of the cubicle switchboard and the plan of practical produces, the subject establishes a 3D electric field numerical calculation model. It meets the specification, adopts the numerical simulation and corresponding experiment, describes the electric field distribution of the 40.5kV high voltage switch cabinet and the inter-phase, thus ascertaining the electric field distribution and diversification in different situation. By theoretical computing and analyzing, then checking the insulation, a logical configuration and a better insulation would be obtained.
