Most, submersible pump designs are based on experience, strength check seldom adopted, which result in heavy structure and excessive material cost. But saving material is one of the effective methods to enhance enterprise competition and reduce manufacturing cost. Submersible pump was analyzed by using the Finite Element Analysis software and Value Engineering theory based on strength theory, and the results show that the strength of the submersible pump can satisfy request. Meanwhile, the whole value of the pump was enhanced.The main study content and results are outlined as following:1. The strength formula of pump volute and impeller is deduced in detail based on the theory of revolve shell and the constant thickness disk hypothesis. The performance of the volute after saving material and the impeller were analyzed. The results show that there are no hydraulic effects for volute, and it would be useful for impeller after saving material.2. The saving material of WQ45-20-5. 5 sewage submersible pump volute was estimated based on the volute strength formula, and the saved material volume of the volute was 0. 0003m3.3. The volute modes with different thickness were analyzed based on the software of Pro/Mechanical firstly. Based on the analysis results, the reasonable volute thickness and suitable material were suggested, and the parameter influenced the volute stress distribution was obtained. And the improvement measurements were presented. The analysis shows that the stress is the biggest in the position ofθm for volute. It candecrease the stress if r0 is reduced appropriately. The improved method was presented indesign and technics based on this result.4. The strength formula for engineering plastics impeller is given based on the common strength formula and the coefficient k1 was given corresponding to the differentspecific speed firstly. The strength of engineering plastics impeller was calculated with this formula. And the performance advantages, the limit and the request of engineering plastic, which often used in pump, were also pointed out.5. The saving weight is calculated from the saving volume, which illustrated the huge economic potentiality. And based on the theory of Value Engineering, the volute after saving material and the engineering plastics impeller were analyzed, the result shows that the value is improved greatly.
