When the rare earthquake comes, it need to know the structural damage status,trace the response of structure and find out the weak floors and components to preventstructural collapse. Elastic-plastic analysis is an important part of performance-basedseismic design. Among the existing methods,nonlinear static analysis (pushover)method and incremental dynamic analysis (IDA) method which is based on dynamictime history analysis are regarded as the commonly used analysis method of structuralperformance evaluation. These two methods are studied in this paper.The basic theory and procedure of the pushover analysis method are described inthe first part of the paper. Displacement-based adaptive pushover analysis method ispresented and compared with the common pushover analysis method which usedtriangle lateral load pattern and rectangle lateral load pattern.The basic principle, the parameter selection and the calculation process ofincremental dynamic analysis are described and the calculation principle of singleIDA curve and the statistic process of multi-stripe IDA curve are introduced in thispaper. IDA method is performed under one-direction and bi-direction horizontalearthquake.Finally, the basic theory of probability seismic demand analysis and fragilityanalysis are introduced and the results of IDA are used to carry out the probabilityseismic demand analysis and estimate the structural performance states.
