Analysis of temperature control measures is one of the critical problems of design and construction of mass concrete structures.During the design and engineering construction of the concrete gravity dam for Xiangjiaba Hydropower station, there are also many difficult problems faced with, such as, which kind of joint formations should be chosen, how much flow-rate and temperature of water and how many measures of thermal insulation and precooling during pipe cooling should be made.It is very important to relieve thermal crack during building a dam; so the main works done in this paper is listed as follows:(1),FEM is expounded in detail about temperature field and thermal stress of mass concrete in the paper; the basic principles and process of simulative analysis in software ANSYS are introduced specific at length. There are some factors mainly considered such as heat of hydration of cement, pipe cooling, delaminating and so on(2),The temperature and thermal creep stress of the 3 monolith of a concrete gravity dam are analyzed using finite element method, in the condition of plating dam with pipe cooling and without pipe cooling.(3),The effect of the arrangement of pipe, the flow-rate, temperature of water and on temp-erature of concrete is discussed. At last, this these comes to the conclusion that, the concrete gravity dam for Xiangjiaba Hydropower station may be constructed with 2 longitudinal joints, distance between cooling water pipes is1.5m×1.5m, flow-rate of coolong water is q = 15~20L /min.
