Temperature load is one of the main loads that effect on the mass concrete. Holding the temperature field and the corresponding temperature-caused stress field during construction and operation timely and exactly play an important role as well as its safety operation. Some measure facilities pre-buried in the mass concrete are incapable to forecast its evolution and reflect the situation of the whole dam body comprehensively, much more to provide decision-making basis for the next construction and safety operation. Therefore it is all-important to simulate and analyze the temperature field and the corresponding temperature-caused stress field of the mass concrete.The method and theory of 3-D FEM are introduced and applied in the calculation of temperature field and thermal-creep-stress field in a concrete pier in this paper. And the relevant evaluation of the program is given on the basis of the application example. The main research work in this paper can be presented as follows:1. Several elemental but important questions are discussed in this paper, including the evaluation of the method for initial temperature on the junction plane between the new and old plane of the mass concrete, the definition of the calculation step length, the simulation of the temperature boundary, the estimation of air temperature and the river temperature, the determination of the elastic module and the parameters of the creep collapse and so on.2. On the basis of the thoughts of layer-merged and the algorithms of different length of calculation step on different district and the live and death element technology, the 3-D FEM analysis program is wrote for computing and simulating the temperature field and creep collapse stress field in the concrete pier in the environment of ANSYS. The whole process from the concrete placement to the completion of the construction and to the extension of steady operation has been successfully simulated by the above mentioned analysis program. Especially, all influence factors, such as the heat emission due to hydration, the refrigeration by pre-buried water pipe in pier body and the heat dispersion through the pier body surface, are comprehensively taken into account during simulation.
