Because of huge body and complicated profile of structures much computation is required and difficulty in mesh generation is encountered in the thermal stress analysis simulating the construction process of the hydraulic concrete structures by using FEM. Being convenient in adaptive analysis and mesh generation, Numerical Manifold Method (NMM) provides a new approach for the thermal stress analysis. In this paper NMM is applied to the thermal stress analysis and the following works are carried out based on the existing researches:(1) According to the recursive formulae of concrete creep based on FEM, the recursive formulae suitable for NMM are deduced.(2) Referring to the equivalent equation of heat conduction and the remainder ratio method based on FEM, the formulae suitable for NMM to model the pipe cooling is derived.(3) Upon the derived fomulae, programs of high-order NMM for thermal field analysis and thermal stress analysis simulating the construction process of 2-D and 3-D mass concrete structures are developed and verified by examples.Above works provide a sound base for the application of NMM in the thermal stress analysis simulating the construction process of the mass concrete structures.
