With the rapid development of economy, the waterbody is commonly polluted in Shanghai city. As a result of engineering and quality-induced water shortage, the water supply of city is a key factor to impede the sustained development of social economy. Water diversion from other area is an effective method to ensure the safety of water supply in Shanghai city. The Qingpu lake scheme is one of three water diversion schemes constituted by the project of protection of water head site in upstream of the Huangpu River, which is a successful way to solve the water supply problem. Based on the operating condition of actuality and planning, According to the water inflow feature of the Taipu River and, the typical case method is applied for ascertaining the water quantity and quality of the Taipu River in near term 2010 and long range 2020 to confirm whether the Qingpu lake scheme is feasible.Comprehensively considering the operating condition, hydrologic regime and operation design project, 12 calculation projects are put forward through arranging the possible combination. The water quantity and quality coupled model is used to compute the incoming water of the Taipu River, which is effective and applicable in the study basin. At present this kind of model is regarded as an important tool to analyze and demonstrate the technique related to water resources of the Taihu lake basin. The result shows that if the near term planning project is carried on and bring into play the net discharge and water quality of the Taipu River down stream can satisfy the water diversion to the Qingpu lake and successfully solve the problem of the incoming flow demand in the Qingpu lake scheme in 2020.
