For the current design of muffler, it is an exigent problem to be solved how to design a high-quality muffler efficiently. CSCD (Computer Supported Cooperative Design) is a new product exploitation mode. When at the prophase it takes into account all factors that will influence the quality, cost and exploitation time of new products at the anaphase of product exploitation. CSCD can shorten the design period of new products, upgrade design efficiency, improve design quality and economize exploitation cost. Therefore, it is a very necessary, exigent and significant subject to introduce the CSCD that is an advanced design means into the conventional design of muffler.Interrelated theories of CSCD are discussed in the dissertation. Two trusses of CSCD platform that are C/S (Clients/Server) mode and B/S (Browser/Server) mode are investigated and the advantages to adopt the B/S mode are analyzed. The cooperative design manner of muffler is also investigated, which is how to make the conventional serial design process of muffler be a cooperative design process. On the basis of these, ASP (Active Server Pages) and Java Applet are applied to open up the"Computer Supported Cooperative Design System of Muffler". In the system, the members of projects are divided into three types of persons that are principals of projects who are responsible for supervising the headway of the projects, CAE analysis experts who are responsible for guaranteeing the performance index of the muffler and persons who design the structure of the muffler which includes interrelated parameters to be imported and structures to be chose. In the system, those three types of persons can do their own task at the same time, cooperating with other members.In the system, a Java Applet is applied to draw the sketch of the muffler. Based on acoustic transfer matrixes analytical method of the muffler, sound transmission loss of the muffler is calculated and a Java Applet is applied to draw the curve of sound transmission loss.The problems of task management and"conflict resolution"in the CSCD field are also probed in the dissertation. Combining with the muffler that is a material object, some pertinent means ate put forward to solve these problems in the system. For the problem of"conflict resolution", the members can adopt the"talk-online"way to exchange their own idea. They can also use compulsive mode"design-lock"to solve the problem. The dissertation also takes into account. The safety of the system is also taken into account, some solutions being put forward.Through an example which is also demonstrated to design a muffler with the system, the practicability of the system is validated fundamentally.
