The part size detection plays an important role in the present industry production. The traditional detector, which is used to detect parts, has some shortcomings, such as the low precision, the high cost, the survey not convenient, the deficient flexibility, cannot support the online detection, hardly to connect with the computer, etc. These shortcomings cause the level of the part size examination is irregular, and the waste of part in many situations. Therefore the development of high performance part size detector is extremely essential. This research combine the traditional part size detected technology with the modern virtual instrument technology to explore a new technology which based on the modern virtual instrument technology. This technology can be used to quickly develop a virtual part size detector to satisfy the user's requirements. This method not only expands the application of virtual instrument technology, but also broadens the development pattern of detection system. It has greatly facilitated the detector system development, saved the development cost in the economy, reduced the development cycle in the time and promoted the economic efficiency, which has great benefit to the enterprise and society's contribution in the manpower and physical resource and the financial resource.In this paper, the logical organization and the software and hardware design of the virtual part size detector in detail were introduced. Utilizing Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) method to design the center control module, the parameter establishment module, the data acquisition and processing module, the data analysis module, the data display module, the data review module, the printout module and other auxiliary function module. All of these can realize acquire, process, analysis and display part size function.In the data analysis process we adopt the statistics process control and appraisal technology (SPC) which has been already successful applied in the world. This paper combines the traditional part size detection with the modern quality control theory through the virtual instrument technology. Using the SPC technology, we can monitor the part's production craft to assure the craft is at the controlled condition and the high quality of the part. The SPC technology might avoid the waste of products and large quantities of sub-quality products and enhanced the production efficiency.This virtual part size detector is a successful attempt which applies the virtual instrument into measurement domain, which is sparkpluged by Professor Qin Shunren. The practice indicated that the virtual instrument can combine the traditional size detection with the quality control. And the virtual instrument's formidable vitality and the new method of size detection are shown in this paper.
