It is proposed base isolation technology applied to slab-column structure in this paper. This proposition is expected to retain the original merits of both slab-column structure and base isolation technology. Hereby the design height limit and the construction requirements are hoped to be renewed, and its seismic performance to be improved.In this paper, a FEM model of the base isolation slab-column structure is developed to perform nonlinear time-history analysis with SAP2000. On the basis of the analysis, the equivalent lateral force method of the system, the simplification design method suitable to the structure and some related topics are studied and discussed. The following contents are included in this paper:1. The characteristics of the existing simplified methods suitable to the seismic design of the structure are introduced and discussed.2. An example of such a structure is modeled with FEM software, and the analytical results are studied and discussed via visually observing the nature of this structure.3. Compared with the results of the nonlinear time-history analysis, the equivalent lateral force method is studied. The equivalent coefficient of the total gravity load is evaluated and suggested.4. The equivalent pattern of lateral force distribution along the height of the structure is discussed and classified with proper algorithms. Some suggestions are put forward.Based on the equivalent lateral force method proposed above, the design procedure, design parameters with design examples are suggested for preliminary structural design of the structure.
