| Engineering structures serving in complicated environment often suffer different kinds of damages; accumulation of such damages easily results in catastrophes, so it is very important for safety of structures to detect the early damages of structures. The purpose of structural damage detection is to identify the location and the grade of structural damages based on the characteristics represented by structures. The identification of location and grade of structural damages is involved in positioning techniques and quantitative analysis of structural damage detection. The positioning techniques of structural damages are thoroughly studied by change of flexibility method and change of flexibility curvature method. The main researching fields are as following:1. The method of bridge structure disease examination and structure damage evaluation is reviewed; its application and limitation are discussed briefly.2. The basic theory of change of flexibility method and change of flexibility curvature method is demonstrated.3. The model adopts simpley supported girder bridge and continuous girder bridge, damage simulated by reduction of modulus of elasticity, the natural frequency and mode of vibration computed by MIDAS, difference changing in flexibility and changing in flexibility curvature from self design program.4. The variational trend of change of flexibility and change of flexibility curvature proves that change of flexibility method and change of flexibility curvature method are reasonable and viable.5.
