Linear induction motor is a kind of driving equipment that can convert electrical energy to linear movement directly. Since it omits the internal transmission mechanism which is a must for a rotational motor to produce a linear movement, it simplifies the whole transmission mechanism, reduces the maintenance and improves the reliability of a system. It is thus used in varies fields such as industrial production, transportation and construction as well. However, because of its different utilizing purpose, the emphasis on the research and design is slightly different. Since the requirement for localization of the on-wheel urban transport system driven by linear induction motor is urgent day by day, it is necessary to study and analysis the single-side linear induction motor used in this field systematically.Because of this, this thesis deals with the following aspects of this subject after analysis the characteristics of the single-side linear induction motor used in the on-wheel urban transport system:1. It synthesizes the contemporary theories and builds up the mathematical model that reflects the transverse-edge and longitude-end effects of the linear induction motor. Based on the calculation of the air-gap flux density according to this model, it analyses the effects of the velocity on the air-gap flux density.2. In practice, to improve the performance of linear induction motor, it is used to lay the reaction plate with different configurations and materials along the rail. Thus this paper calculated the effects of the reaction plate with different configurations and materials on the driving performance and perpendicular force. It lays the foundation for the design of the hanging mechanism and the reaction plate of the motor to some extent.3. It builds up the dq simulation model with the end effects taking into account, and simulated the start process of the linear induction machine. After that we compared it with that of linear induction motor without end effects taking into account. And point out the differences between them. It lays the foundation for the corresponding control system of linear induction motor.
