With the development of our national economy, the living condition of the people has been improved gradually. The structure of electrical source and load characteristic change largely, because of the rapid increasing of the load in network in our country. The peak-to-valley ratio in our country increases greatly and the lack of the electrical power in the peak time interval becomes serious.The pumped storage power station uses the surplus capacity in network, the pumped storage power station pumps from the under reservoir to the on reservoir. It generates electricity in the peak load time interval of day. So, its function is 'shifting peak'.Firstly, this article discusses research background and purpose, domestic studying actuality and background. It introduces the principle and characteristic of the pumped storage station and the operation of the pumped storage plant.The operation of pumped-storage power station decides that the units absorb electricity in the small load. The time-of-day price mode is more favorable to develop the pumped storage plant. Along with the establishment and perfection of assistant service market, the dynamic benefit of pumped storage plant will be effectively compensated and their financial ability and competitive power can be future improved.Based on the research background and content of the pumped storage power station, it introduces optimizing multi-arithmetic and the analysis of economic operation by compare. We can find the dynamic programming method is important for the optimizing operation of the pumped storage power station, so this thesis solves this kind of problem by the dynamic programming method. This thesis takes account of economical operation of the pumped storage plant. It solves the maximal objective function to achieve the maximal economical benefit based on the load forecasting figure when economical operation of a day is discussed.For the original data input and result display of the pumped storage power station, the graphic user interface is realized by using the dialog box function and Quick Win operating database provided by the Visual Fortran. The developed software has both text and graph input and output platform. Source program and graphic user interface are programmed using Visual Fortran, which leave out the data exchange in the mixed language programming. The design idea for graphic user interface is based on simpleness and practicality, referring to the pumped storage plant characteristic and the on-line information, which ensures the practicability of the developed software.
