Management system for line losses in distribution networks is one of the important contents in the cost engineering of power supply company. Theoretical line losses can be used to analyze the rationality of the structure and the operational parameters of power networks. They can also reflect the technical and managerial level of electric power company. From the results of theoretical line losses computation, we can take some measurements to optimize the structure of the power networks. In some sense, reduction of the rate of line losses can increase the benefits of power supply company.Traditional methods of line losses calculation have some flaws when dealing with the distribution networks, so power flow algorithms are commonly used recently. New method which combined B/S mode with C/S mode is adopted according to the analysis and comparing of the two system structure. After comparison of these power flow algorithms, a modified approach is proposed to calculate the line losses of distributed networks. Based on this algorithm, database of the management system is designed. The platform is PowerBuilder 9.0 and the database is SQL Server 2000. The fact indicates that this system has the characters of practicability, high reliability, easy manipulation, friendly interface and etc.
