Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) is very popular for the maintenance management in industry in the world; it is a method for maintenance optimization and can be used to determine the suitable maintenance mode, which is being used worldwide.In this paper, firstly, it provides a brief explanation to RCM, starting with a look at the history of maintenance management development over the past sixty years and the status in quo. It is stated that it is very important and necessary to implement the RCM, according to the outstanding achievement of implement of the RCM by some local and abroad manufacturers and nuclear power stations. Secondly, it is detail introduced and explained which kind of suitable maintenance modes should be determined from equipment importance, failure consequence, maintenance decision logic diagram, and economical power so as to ensure equipment reliability and decrease the requirement of the maintenance source.It is brief introduced the complete process of implement and application of the RCM technique in fuelling machine head system of Third Qinshan Nuclear Power Company (TQNPC) and the big change in operation status of the system after application of the RCM, such as, increase the proportion of preventive maintenance, and add some condition-based maintenance items, decrease the quantity of equipment failure, and decrease the requirement of the maintenance source and service cost, renew the traditional maintenance concept, and improve the equipment reliability, etc. At same time, in order to continue to extend the implement of the RCM technique and get more benefit brought by RCM technique in TQNPC as schedule, some technical pre-preparation issues should be done and some concept sense of TQNPC staff should be changed. It is also summarizes the efficiency and good prospect of RCM.This is the first time to analyse and implement the RCM technique for the Qinshan Phase III fuelling machine head system; it is a good attempt and can be as reference for TQNPCIt can be as reference for some people who want to learn what RCM is, what it achieves and how it is applied. It also can be as reference for TQNPC to implement the RCM technique during next 5 years.
