Some famous massive-head dams of country have some trouble during their construction or working. Such as: the XinFengJiang massive-head dam. Earthquake could be felt at reservoir region after it was stored water in 1959.And, it appeared some rifts on its head during a strong earthquake in 1962. So, there are major meanings on the calculation of massive-head dam's strength and the reliability of dam under the earthquake. For massive-head dam's unique shape, this paper applies AutoCAD to build model and the dissection principle for the dissection of the dam. The principle is based on hyper-unit theory. Then, this paper utilizes the units and junctions to have the finite element analysis and calculation and analyze the dynamic response of the massive-head dam by one-dimensional cantilever beam method,stimulating static method and response spectrum method. Finally, the dynamic displacement and dynamic stress of massive-head dam under earthquake could be got.The concept of structural dynamic reliability is the probability of which the structure completes predetermined function during the providing time and condition under the action of dynamic loads. Structural dynamic safty is weighted by dynamic reliability. In the designs of structure, the dynamic loads are stochastic not only on time and space but also on the order of change. Structural dynamic reliability theory is a branch of new developing structural dynamic. It is a way to research the structural reliability. The structural loads are dynamic stochastic. It is the combine of structural dynamic and probability theory. This paper is mainly concerned with the dynamic reliability of massive-head dam under earthquake. During the analyses, it considers the effect of variability,relevance and truncate of the stochastic variable.Structural optimizing design is a new design method of combining the mathematical optimizing theory and compute. During the occurrence of it, designers'designes and analyses should be changed from passive to active. Despite the definitude optimizing method is general, more and more designers realize that the material properties,member measurements and the outside actins are stochastic geometry quantities or physical quantities. Therefore, the optimizing design of project should be changed from determine to undetermined. The way and concept of reliability is a suitable means to evaluate and analyze the ambiguity. So, combining the way of reliability and the optimizing is the best for design. The paper is concerned with the optimization based on conception of reliability. Then, the volume and cost of the massive-head dam is the best.
