The crack behavior of concrete beams with HRB400 steel bars and steel wire mesh is experimentally studied in this paper, The purpose of this study is to observe the influence to the crack interval and crack width after assembling the steel wire mesh on the surface of the stirrup. HRB400 steel bars, which is called new Gradeâ…¢steel bars, has been defined as the leading steel bar that has been used widely in building structures by Code for design of concrete structure(GB50010-2002). HRB400 steel bars is characterized by high ratio between strength and price, good welding quality and ductility, using HRB400 steel bars in the construction replacesâ… steel bars andâ…¡steel bars can enhance the overall performance of the construction. It can satisfy the requirement that high building should use high stress steel bar. By now, few studies are made on bearing capacity, crack and rigidity regarding the concrete members with HRB400 steel bars, at present, this kind of study is widely developing. Study in this paper can provide theoretic and testing bases for the project application.According to the test of 8 HRB400 reinforced concrete beams, which include 6 concrete members with HRB400 steel bars and steel wire mesh and 2 concrete members without steel wire mesh for comparison, the flexural strength of members in this test is studied, and the crack and deflection behaviors under the normal state of serviceability are analyzed. The testing results indicated that 6 concrete beams with HRB400 steel bars and steel wire mesh and 2 concrete beams without steel wire mesh worked well and all members have obvious failure marks, and the formula in Code can be used to estimate the bearing capacity and deflection of the test members. The testing results show that the formula in Code can not be used to calculate the crack width, crack spacing between cracks, the crack width and the mean crack interval are distinctly decreased because of the resisting capability of the steel wire. Based on the experimental data, this paper suggests a formula that can calculate the crack width and the mean crack interval of the 6 experimental concrete members with HRB400 steel bars and steel wire mesh, the calculated results which are computed by the suggested formula agree well with the test data.
