The reactive power balance is very important to improve the efficiency of the power system and quality of electricity, according to the present situation and development of power industry, research of novel reactive power compensation device is a key matter before us.Novel controllable reactor is one important device in voltage controlling and reactor power compensation, it attracts more attention and is applied in many fields. Compared with the present static model dynamic reactive power compensation, it has many advantages such as applied in a wide range. It is one economical static model reactive compensation device.Controllable reactor can be applied in a wide range in future, related with high voltage and super-high voltage controlling, reactive power control: improving the power system stability and increasing the capacity of transmitting power, over-voltage control, current compensation, and so on. There are many kinds of controllable reactors; the Adjusted-circuit Type Controllable Reactor is the useful one.In this thesis, the basic structure and the operation principle of Adjusted-circuit controllable reactor are studied, and the mathematic model is also established. On the basis of these, working characteristics are analyzed completely. A calculating method of current-limiting reactance is presented. Furthermore, the simulation model of adjustable reactor of stepless series is constructed employing polygon equivalent circuit model of a multi-winding transformer and Matlab/PSB. calculating of interrelation of load and a single-phase long transmission line of EHV with a adjustable reactor of stepless series is presented. A voltage-control system of the line voltage with a CRT is designed employing the dynamic reactive power compensation theory and utilizing the engineering design method. The simulation results demonstrate that the voltage-control system can rapidly regulate the output power of a CRT, and keep the line voltage stabilization while the transmitted power might change. In engineering applications, The working principle of an are suppression coil based on adjustable reactor of stepless series is expounded,and the reason of harmonic current produced by it with signal control coil is analyzed in order to restrain the designed and the method of designing the reasonable rated current of each coils is put forward .
