The paper is based on the study of harmonic in HVDC and synthetically analyses on the harmonic suppression.First, the paper introduces the concept of harmonics and its harm, and harmonic characteristics of HVDC, it also demonstrates the necessity of eliminate harmonic. The paper briefly introduces several analysis method of harmonic, which is the basis on study. Then the paper demonstrates the theory of harmonic detection.Secondly, the paper briefly compares the characteristics and principles of passive filter (PF) and active power filter (APF), on the base of this result, design a hybrid active power filter (HAPF), its structure is shunt APF series LC-PF, then the paper analyses the principles of HAPF.For proving the theory, computer simulation is done with Matlab on a simulated-AC system. The result is very good. And A HVDC model based on the CIGRE HVDC benchmark model is built with PSCAD Using HAPF to eliminate harmonic.Finally, the paper makes the conclusion: Using HAPF is better than PF or APF on eliminating harmonic and economy. HAPF is the trend of filter future.But the technique of HAPF is not hold in our country at present, the study only concentrates on the theory analysis, computer simulation and model. The study in the paper is useful to the research of HAPF.
