Concrete Faced Rockfil Dam (CFRD) has become a kind of competitive dam after long-term development. Static analysis and earthquake resistance are important research subjects in designing and analyzing CFRD. Empirical design is still most usually used, and how to make use of the new calculation technology for design is an arduous job. The finite element method (FEM), especially the nonlinear FEM has become the most popular numerical calculation method because of its perfect theory, definite concept and precise simulation of the dam. Based on the FEM simulation software ADINA, this paper has studied the stress and displacement of CFRD, and the principal contents are listed as follows:First, the basic nonlinear theories and methods and several kinds of constitutive models for rockfill in the FEM simulation analysis of CFRD are studied, and dynamical analysis theories and solution methods of the CFRD are introduced.Second, according to the practical project of the XIALIUJIA CFRD and based on the FEM simulation analysis software ADINA, static analysis model of CFRD is established, and the construction and impound processes of the dam are simulated. The displacements and stresses of the dam and the deck of XIALIUJIA at the time of the dam's completion and impounding are obtained to validate the feasibility of the design, and at the same time two different kinds of construction orders are contrasted and analyzed. Finally, based on the static model, dynamical analysis model of CFRD is established. In the case of the designed earthquake, the earthquake response characters and common rules of the dam, which give references to the earthquake-resistance design of the dam, are analyzed, and earthquake-resistance measures for CFRD are discussed, too.
