The energy-based analysis of earthquake-resistance design can reflect the accumulative damage caused by the continuous time of the earthquake. The transition,conversion and absorb of energy are the basic characters of structural earthquake response. The input energy of earthquake is a relative stable value when the mass and natural vibration period of structure was determined. And the energy-based analysis and design method is definite on its conception and simple in its form. It also can reflect the strength, spectrum character, especially the combined effects of structure damage which coursed by the continuance of strong earthquake. So the energy-based analysis method is paid more and more tension by international earthquake engineering, and it is developing toward practical design method.Researchers in and abroad studied the energy-based analysis method and gained elementary achievements. But there were some committed technical puzzles expected to be solved and completed. So this article researched the drawback of energy-based analysis method and got some conclusions as follows:â‘ The contribution of three element factors of earthquake motion should be considered when selecting the inputted seismic wave in analyzing the structural energy. The selection of inputted seismic wave which was proposed by this article was based on the inputted seismic wave selection with two indexes,added the cybernation of continuance. Seismic waves were selected with two indexes at first, then the waves which corresponded the stationary duration were accessed. Reaction of structural energy was controlled as well as the hysteretic energy was presented regularity when this selection was assumed.â‘¡The proportion of hysteretic energy didn't change greatly with the alteration of earthquake excitation on condition that the earthquake waves were accessed by Energy-based selection of earthquake waves. The allocation of hysteretic energy along the interlamination depended on the dynamic characteristics of structures but not the characteristics of earthquake excitation.â‘¢Research on the equivalent single-degree-of-freedom system based on hysteretic energy is the committed step of the practice of EBD. Two paths were adopted to obtain the SDOF. After the comparison of the hysteretic energy between the SDOF and MDOF, the polygon method of Pushover curve was the better equivalence.
