The Artistic Expression Research Of The Material On Architecture Surface

The concept of"skin"originated in biology has been used in architecture realm. Although it appears frequently in architecture commentaries in recent years, yet nobody has given a clear and satisfactory definition of"skin"in architecture. This article concentrate on the materials that compose the building surface in spit of the theoretical controversy on the skin, in order to explore the excluding artistic expression on architecture. This article's aim is to find the road how to develop the e artistic expressive force of material by understanding the property of the material on building surface, reading the history of it's development, analyzing many good architectural works which reputably express the material on building surface. The artistic expressive force and research value of building materials has attracted the attention of academia. Surface materials not only express it, but also play a very great role in architecture design; nowadays many architects have shifted the focus form the space to the surface, from the geometric design on standing the multiple manifestations of the material in their architecture practice. The author hopes to provide some new ideas and vision on the innovation of architecture design in our country by researching the expressive force of the material on building surface. Moreover, the author expected to provide some consultable datum for the modern architectural design.In the beginning of this article, author introduces the background, meaning, the object and methods of research, and the frame of the paper. In the second part, the concept, characteristics, attributes of the material are presented, meanwhile, it also introduce the basic type and history of surface materials. The third part analyze the artistic expression ways and the feature concepts of surface materials from the on the aspects of the traditional and modern innovation with abundant examples as illustrations Part IV give an objective presentation on the status and exploration of the artistic expression of the surface material in our country, also the analysis of the current performance which is full of lack and neglect. Part V is my own inspiration based on the analysis all above, which is presented a summary of the thinking and design methods, and thinking relevant with the theories such as sustainable development, Region culture etc. Chapter VI reviews the conclusions, reiterating the meaning of the research to the modern architecture design as well as the summary of the article.
