With the development of computer technology and the increasingly fierce market competition, every walk of life asks for more sophisticated demand to the common CAD software. They hope a kind of CAD software that fits their design habit can achieve their design requirements faster and more efficient. But they can't develop a specialized software, for it's a time-consuming and costly work. Therefore, to redevelop an existing generic CAD becomes their effective option.Piston assembly includes piston, piston pin, piston ring and other parts that reciprocate in the cylinder. Existing piston assembly design also identified the problem: first, ensure the piston size based on the experience; then, check the size and put these data into models of universal CAD software, build their three-dimensional model. This is a cumbersome and repeat process, but it's a necessary part of piston assembly design. To solve this problem, this paper aims at the piston assembly's design feature, develop a piston assembly CAD that can realize users' faster design and building of three-dimensional model of the piston assembly. This paper is based on a computer operating system in Windows 2000, using Visual C++6.0 as integrated development environment, using UG NX for the parametric CAD system platforms. The main purpose of this paper include the following: First, determine the parameters that determine the main structure of the piston assembly and their sizes and compile piston initialization interface; second, call UG/OPEN API in the integrated development environment for Visual C++to build the models and check the size if necessary. This system can not only improve design efficiency and quality, but also meet the requirements for the development of modern technologies.
