Although piston assembly is the key part of engine, it works in the worst environment.Piston assembly requirement in designing has become higher and higher, while the workingenvironment is getting worse and worse, which is caused by improvement of engineintensifying, power increase and speed enhancement. Presently, CAD technology has beenwidely used in engine design, which will make integration, automatization andintelligentization applied in piston assembly design. Therefore, the CAD parametrizationsystem for piston assembly emerges as the times require with characteristics of highefficiency, reliability, comprehensiveness, practicability.Based on SolidWorks, this thesis has developed CAD system for piston assembly withVisual C++ 6.0, and constructed the user interface module, the template library module, theprogram module and the database management module. Among them, the template librarymodule, the program module and the database management module are core modules of thesystem, which can implement exact and rapid modeling and parameterization design for allparts of piston assembly.Through collecting and studying domestic and abroad piston assembly design, the thesishas drawn a lot of 3-D solid models with SolidWorks including piston, gas ring, oil ring andpiston pin. As piston structure is complex, the thesis has divided it into matrix, cavity, pin, top,ring groove, and other features based on feature-sculpting and parameterization designthrough analyzing the structure. And each sub-feature has been divided into several furthersub-features. Then, the thesis has set up the large and comprehensive feature template library,part template library and graphics library. In modeling, it has carried out further developmentfor SolidWorks 2011 through VC++ and SolidWorks API functions, implemented featuresand parts revision with parameters driving and sub-features combination with library feature technology, and realized exact and rapid modeling and parametric and serialization design forpiston assembly.As to data management of plentiful feature libraries, part libraries and graphics librariesin studying, the thesis has set up the parameter information database with Access datamanagement system, and implemented operations in querying, adding, modifying anddeleting database with ODBC data interface and VC++ programming.The practical application proves that this CAD system of piston assembly can implementparameterization, serialization and automatization in designing parts of piston assembly withfriendly interface, complete functions, high efficiency and practicality, which will provideimportant grounds for all kinds of piston assemblies in designing rapidly and lay a goodfoundation for CAE research of piston assembly.
