With the rapid growth of economy, hi-tech zones in China are becoming locomotives for science and technology development. However, environmental problems also come with the development of hi-tech zones. Greenbelt, an important part for urban environmental protection, is one of the bases of sustainable development for hi-tech zones. Therefore, researches on how to analyze Greenbelt landscape pattern, changing status and function shifts are becoming more and more important for optimization of landscape planning of hi-tech zones.Based on Quickbird image data and other geo-information collected by means of GIS, RS as well as field investigation, the present research makes a chart of the status quo of the greenbelt of South Park of Chengdu Hi-tech Zone (CDHT). Analysis on the greenbelt landscape pattern is made based on the chart from the perspective of landscape ecology. Upon the analysis, the research makes proposals for the landscape planning. Major findings are as follows:1. The types of greenbelt of CDHT mainly consist of parks, nursery, green buffers, attached greenbelts and other green areas. The total vegetation area is 616.699 hm~2, with imbalanced proportion for each type of landscape. Attached greenbelts and parks account for as high as 44.3% and 40.7% while other types only take up a small portion. Outskirt scenery vegetation even can not be found in CDHT.2. Small and medium sized greenbelt patches with area not more than 0.5 hm~2 account for 95.91% while large ones with area not less than 0.5hm~2 only account for 4.09%. A lack of large greenbelt patches is obvious.3. The average shape index in CDHT is 1.7271 with high coefficient of shape variation 0.713. The whole greenbelt fractal dimension is 1.202 with low park greenbelt fractal dimension. Landscape unit shape of large patches in parks is not reasonable.4. The landscape diversity index of greenbelt is 0.5543, the landscape evenness index of greenbelt is 0.3093, and the landscape dominance index of greenbelt is 1.1134. Only a few types of landscape dominate the overall landscape pattern. Degree of heterogeneity of landscape pattern is low.5. Based on the indices, the research points out problems with the landscape pattern from the perspective of landscape science. According to the overall planning for city construction, the research put forward suggestions for landscape planning of CDHT from the perspective of green patches and green corridor.
