Large experimental research and earthquake disaster analysis indicate that buildingstructure can enter elastic-plasticity in strong motion earthquake. The seismic code ofpartial nation are based on intermediate earthquake design, in which structural influencingcoefficient (or seismic response modified coefficient) is presented in order to simplifyseismic design. The structural influencing coefficient is the important factor of determiningdesign earthquake action, which is based on the condition-based seismic design. Thesecurity and economy of structure design lie on the value of structural influencingcoefficient.Foreign codes about the definition and value of structural influencing coefficient isn'-tthe same. Comparing the foreign seismic code with our country', it is unreasonable that thesingle structural influencing coefficient is nowadays adopted by currently Code for seismicdesign of buildings in all structural systems built by different materials in our country. Formulti-story steel frames, the earthquake action value of our country is higher and the goodductility and energy-dissipating capability are not utilized sufficiently, which cause steelmaterials wasted to large extend.In this paper eighteen examples, which are designed strictly owning to currently Codefor seismic design of buildings of my country, are used to analyze the structure earthquakeresponse under the horizontal seismic load (nabla load distribution pattern) by Push-overanalytical method. The corresponding structural influencing coefficient, the displacementamplification factor, the overstength and ductility factors are analyzed taking into accountthe factors changing, such as level number, span length, span number. The result indicatesearthquake actions of less than six-story steel frames designed according to the Code(GB50011-2001) are higher, then it is suggested to reduce earthquake actions properly.At last, some reasonable design suggestions are presented for the seismic design ofmulti-story steel frames.
