It is significant to ascertain the data of ship and it's segments during the ship building, such as center of gravity, area and weight etc.. The center of gravity position will not only affects the marine performance including the stability, rolling and so on, but also influences the efficiency of assemblage and weld directly. Moreover, it is very necessary to calculate utilized material such as steel, paint and so on for budgeting cost and for selecting cooperate-company.According to requirements of a company, pilot study work was done to develop a segment calculation system about gravity center and utilized material. The detailed work as follows:1. Based on the modern shipbuilding process, the appropriate calculation scheme was designed. Namely on the basis of shipbuilding process, ship body can be subdivided into segments, parts, until pieces of panel or section bar, and the data about total body, segments, parts can be obtained through calculating the data of every piece of panel. For example the total paint of the ship surface, steel panel weight and the center of gravity of ship body can be calculated according to area, volume and coordinate. After analyzing the results of calculation, the method of dividing panel into triangle was chosen.2. Choosing appropriate development tool and planning reasonable program frame for the system. Because of large numbers of data should be calculated, database technique was applied to carry out the access and sorting process of the data, and Visual Basic 6.0 was adopted according to the requirement of client in this thesis.3. Programming the applying software with friendly interface.4. Applying the software developed, the data of the double bottom structure of the S-1433 container ship was calculated and the results show the data's definition is higher.By using the system developed in this thesis, the center of gravity, spray-paint area, the steel volume and the total paint can be obtained quickly and accurately, so it is useful and valuable to improve the efficiency of manufacture and cost budget, shorten the shipbuilding period and strengthen the competition ability of the ships building enterprise.
