As a mature electromagnetic field generic calculation method, Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) algorithm is widely used in the analysis of radiation antennas, the research of microwave devices and traveling wave structure, scattering and radar cross section calculation, and in areas such as the Electronic Packaging and electromagnetic compatibility. It is a simple and effective numerical method used for solving electromagnetic field problems.This paper first introduces the electromagnetic problems on the FDTD method, and expounds the mesh generation algorithm of this software, then introduces a FDTD after thetime step signal extrapolation method——GPOF methods, and realizes the extrapolationmethod of GPOF with programming, and researches the OpenGL 3D graphics modeling. I have designed an electromagnetic modeling and visualization software based on hybrid programming of VB, MATLAB and OpenGL. It supplies some data files for the FDTD simulation software such as media, mesh, boundary conditions and the set of excitation source. The software automatically generates uniform and non-uniform mesh, which meet the conditions of FDTD and does real-time observation and meticulous revision on the target object through the rotation, translation, and zoom of the graphics and draws the reflection coefficient of the object with simulation data. The dynamic demonstration effect of electromagnetic field has deepened the users' understanding.The hybrid programming of VB, MATLAB and OpenGL has the advantages of being friendly interface and easy to compile of VB and remaining the functions of powerful matrix calculation of MATLAB, and introducing excellent 3D graphics modeling of OpenGL. It greatly strengthens the effects of electromagnetic modeling and visualization. GPOF extrapolation procedures do accurate extrapolation interpolation for the numerical simulation of FDTD and greatly reduce the time of FDTD simulation computation. It plays an important role with the FDTD method to be applied to a larger scale and wider fields.With the examples of the calculations of C-type slot microstrip antenna modeling's reflection coefficient, and the FDTD simulation of U-shaped dual-frequency microstrip antenna and GPOF extrapolation, and three-dimensional dynamic demonstration of electromagnetic field of the microstrip antenna modeling, shows that the software of electromagnetic modeling and visualization have the advantages of friendly interface, convenient operation, data processing accuracy and efficiency.
