The brushless doubly-fed machine (BDFM),a newly developed machine in recent years, not only features brushless and reliability, but also has the advantage of both asynchronous machines and synchronous machines. It can be used as an adjustable-speed machine or a variable-speed constant-frequency generator. Moreover, it has high performance such as, a relatively low rating power converter, adjustable power factor and so on. These benefits attract more and more researcher's attention.This paper beginning with BDFM's historical development, based on the analysis of its structure, operating theory and measures of speed adjust, presents the BDFM's calculating model and variable calculating method, and a simulation carried out to verify its open-loop performance. And on the basis of the BDFM's characteristic, add a control device to a Siemens transducer. Through the device, the voltage and frequency of the transducer can adjust separately, and realize the control of BDFM. Finally, experiment with a prototype machine in different operations and verified the theory.The researches in this paper have an actual meaning to the frequency conversion timing system of BDFM, and will promote the BDFM's development.
