The special ship named chemical tanker carries dangerous liquid cargo, which is harmful to human or environment. Some vessles need keep certain temperature, for example, asphalt, wood distillate oil, sulfur etc, they need sustained heating at temperature 90°C to 250°C,to prevent freezing. And chemical tanker requires withstanding thermal stress induced by high-temperature heat source, in order to guarantee the strength of ship hull. So it is of great importance and value for chemical tanker to analysis temperature field and thermal stress. This thesis first introduces background, significance and research status .Then introduce the basic concepts and principles calculation of temperature field and thermal stress in details, and deduced FEM format. This thesis also introduces application of finite element software ANSYS. At last, combining with the sub - subject of the "tenth five - year State's high - tech ship project plan: the research on the ship structural design", the solution analysis of the actual chemical tanker example is emphatically done. The analysis process is that taking the 46000 DWT chemical tanker as the model and doing the analysis and computation of the thermal stress in different temperature fields by the large universal finite element software ANSYS. The distribution of the uneven temperature field generated by the high temperature in stainless steel holds with different temperatures in the adjacent liquid tanks is studied in this paper. Furthermore, the thermal stress distribution and the changing condition of the internal ship structure caused by the above two different kinds of the uneven temperature fields are analyzed in detail. The ship local strength and the damage strength are further discussed and the heat load limit value the ship structure can bear is also indicated here. The main conclusions of this paper are: (1) the place with higher temperature has the larger temperature stress and can obtain the same order of the overall longitudinal bending stress; (2) the components of the deck, inner bottom and so on are greatly influenced by the temperature load, therefore the plates should be thicken properly; (3) the corrugated bulkhead has the evident effect on decreasing the temperature stress and plays the role of the buffer effect; (4) when the ship is full load, the temperature stress effect is outstanding; when the ship is in part load, the deck stress decreases evidently, but the inner bottom stress has no evident change. The research of this paper has the guidance significance and the reference value to the design and the loading condition of the chemical tanker.
