Research On Colored Glaze Decoration On Ancient Architecture In Shanxi

The art of colored glaze has a long history in Shanxi. In about 1500 years, the colored glaze industry develops continuously and remains lots of excellent works in different times. The art of colored glaze in Shanxi ranks first in all of China.Shanxi has glorious achievement in colored glaze, and is called a culture and art treasure-house, in which colored glaze decoration on ancient architecture is tiptop. But research on art and culture attribute is seldom seen. This paper intends to make a break through in this field.This article is divided into three sections:No. 1 chapter: This part introduces the emergence and development of colored glaze, especially the colored glaze decoration on ancient architecture in Shanxi. It developed from lower stage to high stage, from simplicity to complex. Colored glaze was used in architecture decoration in Bei Wei Dynasty, developed from Tang, Song and Yuan Dynasties, and achieved the height of colored glaze art in Ming and Qing Dynasties. For the different political, cultural, religious factors in different dynasties, the colored glaze appears different decoration styles.No.2 chapter: tells the decoration styles of colored glaze on ancient architecture in Shanxi, which includes the decoration on ridges, colored glaze pagoda, memorial archway, colored glaze wall facing to gate and so on. By illustration, this part analyses the styles, colors, the characteristics of decorative patterns and development, which shows the distinctive style and features of colored glaze decoration on ancient architecture in Shanxi.No.3 chapter: explains the art and culture connotation of colored glaze on ancient architecture in Shanxi from four aspects: color and colored glaze, colored glaze and Buddhism culture, colored glaze and dragon & phoenix culture, colored glaze and local folk culture.Using example, comparison, analysis and induction methods, this article demonstrates the application, colors, plastic arts, development and art and culture connotation of colored glaze on ancient architecture in Shanxi.
