The era of economic globalization and communication has come. The 21 century will be a century full of worldwide competitions. As the core of country and region, the urban has played an much more important role in the world economy. Whether big or small, in the environment around it, a modern city is the node of material, energy, information and circulating capital. The urban competitive ability is the core of the international competition system. On the one hand, the trend of the global circulation of economic resource, especially the financial resource, has great impact on the urban formal structure. This challenges the stability of a urba-n structure and makes the urban eagerly rearrange its spatial structure to cart to the new demand. On the other hand, with a new understanding of resource, "space" has become an important resource, which affects a urban competitive ability. Therefore, how to adjust urban spatial construction has a far-reaching meaning on the urban competitive ability. The goal of this paper is to uncover the interrelationship between urban spatial structure and urban competitive ability, and proves a better urban spatial structure can improve the urban competitive ability. Then, it analyzes the spatial structure of Huzhou, suggests a new spatial structure to help improve its competitive ability.Theoretically, this paper brings forward a new viewpoint on urban spatial structure and urban competitive ability. The urban spatial structure is a type of spatial order prospect based on the resource configured. To boost urban competitive ability mainly lies in improving urban efficiency and creating much more economic surplus. By applying the economic theory, the paper argues the reason why urban spatial structure and the urban competitiveness have been related is because they use the circulation of urban economy as the inter-flat-roof, "agglomeration effects" and "com- antages in urban competitive ability. "Competitiveness effects" is not only the imp-ortantforce to rearrange the urban spatial structure gradually, but can also grades th-e urban competitive abilities. To boost urban competitive ability can accelerate to adjust the urban spatial structure, while the urban spatial structure can restrict the development of urban competitiveness. To improve the urban efficiency and create more and more urban residual, the paper proves the great effects the urban spatial structurehas on urban competitive ability from the angle of improving the urban lan d utilization, labor productivity, capital efficiency and traffic efficiency.Practically, based on Huzhou, by choosing RS image of American landsat-TM/ ETM+ in 1997, 2000, 2003 and 2007 as well as applying GIS software, the paper analyzes the spatial structure of Huzhou from time and space, and points out the main characters and evolvement factors of the urban spatial structure of Huzhou development from 1997 to 2007. Finally, by finding out the potential competitiveness Huzhou has, the paper suggests the direction of Huzhou urban development, and p-oints out how to construct and optimize Huzhou's spatial structure to realize the u-rban competitiveness to the greater level.
