As China’s continuous development of urbanization process and deepening of economic globalization, the region’s dense urban areas-urban agglomerations became the main of the regional competition, and the core and key of regional competition. The urban agglomerations structure reflects the relationships and interactions among cities inside the urban group, and the futuredirection and path of development of urban agglomeration, in recent yearswhich become the focus of urban agglomeration in domestic and foreign scholars. With the popularity and widely used of GIS and remote sensing technology, traditional research methods which qualitative research the internal rules and urban development characteristics of urban systems and the urban agglomerations structure are gradually replaced of some quantitative research methods such as computer simulation and mathematical calculation. Instead, start study the structural characteristics, development law and development road from a way ofmulti-view, multi-angle and a full range. This paper adopts both qualitative and quantitative method, using the city group structure theory, research the urban agglomerations structure of thethree biggest urban agglomerations in the central region of China-Zhongyuan urban group, Wuhan urban circle and Changzhutan urban group through three aspects contrast analysis-structure analysis and comparative study, comprehensive competitiveness study, and space structure comparison study, and draw the following conclusions:Firstly, use of city group structure theory analysis three biggest urban agglomerations in the central region of China, identified Zhongyuan urban group, Wuhan urban circle and Changzhutan urban group’s urban agglomerations types are dumbbell model, core model and multiple nuclei model.Secondly, according to the urban competitiveness model system, structure the urban agglomerations comprehensive competitiveness evaluation system, and use this system analyze Zhongyuan urban group, Wuhan urban circleand Changzhutan urban group, obtain the following conclusions: contrast these three urban agglomerations, competition ability of Changzhutan urban agglomerations is the strongest, Wuhan urban circle is second, and Zhongyua n urban agglomerations is the third column.Thirdly, use the fractal theory analysis the scale distribution and spatialdistribution of urban agglomerations urban system, and gets the followingconclusion:1. In the urban system scale distribution of the urban agglomerations, the city system of Zhongyuan urban agglomerations are developmentmature; the city system of Wuhan urban circle are development immature; the city system of Changzhutan urban agglomerations are development closeto mature.2. In the urban system spatial distribution of the urban agglomerations, these three urban agglomerations are move along with the transport axis appear linear distribution. Within these three urban agglomerations, thebest urban agglomerations in the city ’s spatial distribution is Wuhan urbancircle, which is basic pure linear distribution, along with the transport axisappear uniformly distribute, the distance of cities are suitable; the distanceamong the cities in Zhongyuan urban agglomerations too larger and in Changzhutan urban agglomerations too less.Fourthly, according to the above results of the study by analysis and calculate, we put forward some targeted optimization strategy for the urban agglomerations structure of the three biggest urban agglomerations in the central region of China.
