Under the background of economic globalization, the fast development of world trade make the location of a harbor city more prominent. The economic, traffic and locational relationship between harbor and city is getting closer, the reaction between these two also accelerate its development.Through theoretic analysis and case study, this thesis aims at concluding the general rules of harbor city relation evolution and its influence on urban structure. It takes Rizhao as an example, by analyzing Rizhao's city evolution and its problem or contradiction, we hope to find a way to coordinate urban space and harbor city relations. We find that most harbor cities in the world is developing from the second generation to the third generation. Harbors are getting more multi-functional, there are many elements that affect the existence of harbor, the most important are: location, infrastructure, traffic condition, economic mode, soft environments, etc. At present, Chinese harbors have more competition and co-operation, the trend of concentration is obvious, urban space is more different. The economic mode deeply influences urban structure, traffic condition changes the location of industry and further influences city space, the location of harbor also affects space by transformation of harbors. The relationship of city and harbor is influenced by many elements, it develops towards the harbor, its key is to co-ordinate industrial area and harbor, traffic and harbor, transport and traffic. The urban structural evolution has the character of inner traffic axis and seaside. It is developing from city-harbor separation to city-harbor dependence, to city-harbor independence. Through deep analysis of contradictions and problems of Rizhao's harbor city relation, we want to optimize its mode, and construct ecological urban structure.
