Emotional Design Research Of Hospital Ward Lighting

1 Lighting in the most domestic hospitals is more functional and less emotional. This paper is basic on the study of light atmosphere and emotion and brings a new design way - Emotional Lighting to ease anxiety of patients and speed up their recovery. Especially the paper goes further on the research of ward lighting environment, which has close relation to patients and proposes to build a positive lighting environment by bionic design and vivid color decoration.This paper covers introduction of light and vision principal, light demand development research, features and drivers of Emotional Design on lighting and the basic rules and methods of Emotional Design of hospital lighting. In the paper, a real product in hospital– BHU (Bed Headlight Unit) is designed to testify the feasibility of the rules. In order to meet emotional demand of people, the paper can contribute to designer of hospital lighting and luminaries.The paper consists of eight chapters:The first chapter explains the background by comparing functional and emotional design on hospital lighting. It points out the purpose and significance of the topic, describes research level and developments both domestic and abroad and provides a vision of future hospital lighting design. The second chapter introduces basic concept of light and vision.The third chapter is about the development of human demand for light. Further study ranges from low level to high level and from safe demand to emotional and biological demand. In the chapter, the feasibility of dynamic lighting and ambiance lighting also are studied as practice applications.The fourth chapter looks back history of hospital lighting.The fifth chapter summarizes basic rules of lighting design.The sixth chapter introduces the appearance, development and application of Emotional Design.The seventh is the core part of all. It explores design methods of hospital lighting according to different demand and occasion and concludes with the basic rules and methods for Emotional Design of hospital lighting.The eighth chapter is a practice. An innovative solution is tailored for Bed Headlight Unit) of the ward, which concentrates on bionic form, color, interface and lighting distribution of human demand, to testify the feasibility of the rules and methods.
