Nowadays, communication network covers many parts of a vehicle, such as control systems, information systems, sensor systems, driving systems and so on. Automotive network technologies have become very important for mainstream vehicle manufacturers.This thesis investigates popular communication protocols and standards used in the field of automotive electronics. Referring to AUTOSAR standards, we implement a communication system named SmartCOM, which consists of a COM layer and a PDU Router layer. The COM layer provides common interfaces and behavior for Inter-ECU communication (communication within an electronic control unit) and Intra-ECU communication (communication between networked vehicle nodes). The PDU Router provides routing function among hardware abstract communication controllers and upper modules. SmartCOM interacts with lower bus communication stack in form of I-PDUs.The main work of this thesis can be generalized as follows:Firstly, we design the architecture of SmartCOM communication system. Independent of underlying operating system and hardware, SmartCOM is scalable and has broad applicability.Secondly, we implement SmartCOM, which provides functions such as signal sending and receiving, signal routing, signal group operation, gateway operation, signal filtering and communication transmission control. Furthermore, SmatCOM supports notification mechanism and reliable communication services, and can be configured to satisfy the requirements of most automotive electronic applications.Finally, we use SmartCOM in Santana Light Demo System, and analyse the advantages and results of using it. Then we illustrate how to use it in other automotive electronic application systems.
