Distribution, which holds considerable proportion among variable costs, is a section linking with consumers directly in Express Delivery enterprises operation. The planning of vehicle routing in distribution will take great effect on the efficiency, cost and benefit, especially in distributing for multi-consumer. A scientific and reasonable method to vehicle scheduling is an important operation in Express delivery distribution.Express delivery distribution routing optimization is a NP-hard problem. High effective exact algorithm is impossible to be achieved. This paper studies on the optimization of Express delivery distribution routing problem and solves the problem using improved ant colony algorithm successively. Firstly, it discusses the basic problem about Express delivery distribution and the relative research works before; then it describes the Express delivery distribution problem in mathematic way, analyzes the evaluation standard about the optimization, and builds the mathematic model; according to the basic demand of the model, it introduces the ant colony algorithm (ACA), and a flow chart of solving Express delivery distribution problem with ACA is given, the advantages and disadvantages of ACA are discussed as well.At the same time, aiming at improving the ACA, Genetic algorithm (GA) gives its advantages. The result of experiments demonstrates that the optimal or nearly optimal solutions for Express Delivery distribution routing problem can be easily obtained by the improved ant colony algorithm.
