However, because of the extraordinary construction of commercial buildings in Beijing, the Siheyuan is under high pressure to disappear. The conditions of these houses are not in good maintenance. People live under very uncomfortable conditions; narrow space to live and sanitary conditions are poor. Regardless of its status is fine or dilapidated; to preserve and improve these historical and charming building is an unavoidable issue we must confront. Finding "Beijing taste" and reconstructing "shape of Beijing" is the forward direction of Beijing Siheyuan protection and development in modern circumstances.This paper brings forward a concept, "Livable Siheyuan" which is based on the concept of "livable city". In this discussion about realizing of "Livable Siheyuan", I recommend of on the basis of the "25 historical and cultural preservation planning" to add a new level of "historical and cultural character preservation hutong block ", in order to improve the Beijing Siheyuan protection policy.
