According to the environmental condition of a deep water block in South China Sea, this paper makes the conceptual design and the overall structural strength analysis of the cell spar platform and gives basis for the research of the. platform in the oil and gas exploration in South China Sea.In this paper, the domestic and international situation of the deep water oil and gas exploration is introduced. The main types and characteristics of the deep water platform are introduced briefly. The development direction of the deep water platform technology is analyzed. The development history and the structural forms of the Spar platform, especially Cell Spar platform are introduced. According to the environmental conditions of South China Sea and operational requirements, after several times of the structural strength analysis, the optimized selection of cell spar platform is studied. The main platform scales, the main structure of the platform, the top deck modules and the positioning method are designed. Select rules of environmental loads are given and the environmental loads are calculated according to the sea conditions. Wave load is analyzed primarily. The response functions of the wave force changes with the wave frequency are studied. The relation of wave force and bending moment changes with the wave's incident angle is studied. Finite element analysis of the platform by using ANSYS is made. The structural strength analysis of the platform in survival condition, operating condition and transit condition is made. The stress level and strength demand of overall structure and key positions are determined. The stability of the platform is studied, including the initial stability and the stability under wind force. Model analysis of the platform is made. Natural frequency and vibration mode are determined.
