Load Relieving System is a new type of structure which achieves self-adjustment and self-protection with the introduction of load relieving devices in the structure. In this paper,the achievement of load relieving on cable dome was elucidated. The properties of spring-load-relieving cable dome under static loads and dynamic loads was systematically analyzed.Firstly,the type of structure,the load-relieving device,the analysis methods were summarized on Load Relieving System. The stiffness of traditional load-relieving device was little and could not be combined optionally. A new load-relieving device(Leaf Springs)was brought forward and the stiffness analysis method of leaf spring was discussed.Based on the concept of stable cable and bearing cable, a new idea which result in the achievement of load relieving on cable dome was proposed. The criteria for discrimination of cable dome failure was discussed .A conclusion could be obtained that sunflower-patterned cable dome could continue to bear the load after the slack of ridge cable.Static properties of spring-load-relieving cable dome was studied in comparison to installing load-relieving device in different location .The influence of spring stiffness was also discussed. Dynamic properties of spring-load-relieving cable dome was studied. The vibration properties and the dynamic response of cable dome under common earthquake were studied. It indicated that the load-relieving device could bring to a obvious relieve effect.For direct realization of this kind of structure,an experiment of Bird-nest patterned dome structure with 5.0m diameter had been finished. The contents of the experiment included the static analysis under the load condition and the infuence of the load relieving device etc. The results of experiment were almost consistent with the calculation.Finally, some conclusions were summarized and the problems should be studied further were put forward.
