Mixed traffic flow, which is the main characteristic of large cities in China, is regarded as one of the primary reasons for serious traffic congestion. In the signalized intersection, great interference occurs between the bicycles and motorized vehicles which are in the same phase but heading for different directions. These interferences severely reduce the traffic capacity of the intersection, deteriorate the hidden trouble on traffic safety and make the traffic management very hard to be implemented. Models focused on crossing behavior between vehicles and bicycles is one of the powerful tools for the study on mixed traffic, regardless the lack of mature and sophisticated model and the related theoretical system. This paper systematically summarizes the types of conflict and the mechanism of interference between vehicles and bicycles in signalized intersection. Focusing on the crossing behavior of through bicycles and right-turning vehicles in the same direction, the paper begins with basic date, using video camera to collect data at typical signalized intersection in Beijing, then analyze the collected data. The main contents and contribution could be summarized as follows: (1) the distribution of vehicle arriving gap, crossing speed and the intensity of interference causing by through bicycles; using the related traffic flow theory to build the models for right-turning vehicles.(2) flow and speed distribution of through bicycles when they concentrate or cross in the intersection; describing the behavior of violating, concentrative bicycles during red light and crossing bicycles during green light whether under the interference of right-turning vehicles or no, respectively; building related traffic models among velocity, density and flux of bicycles.(3) according to the behavior description of bicycles and the analysis of related parameters, proposing bicycle group models about concentrative and crossing characteristics of bicycles in the intersection based on wave propagation theory.Based on the statistical analysis and description of behavioral models, some important parameters about the interference between vehicles and bicycles are obtained, which will provide certain reference for signal timing and advanced analysis of the relationship between velocity and density in the mixed traffic.
