Computer Aided Design is abbreviated to CAD. It can improve the efficiency of design and ease the work of designers, so it has been applied widely in various industry. CAD technology for electric power system is more behindhand compared with mechanism, architecture and so on. CAD technology for protective relay of substation and power distribution station is most behindhand. In recent years, some independent protection programme design and configuration setting calculation system software is made. But Protection of the programme design and setting calculation can not be very good value for the response of the graph, graphics functions limited to view information, and can not immediately make the operation and modify graphics, it make the software of relay setting interface unfriendly and bring a lot of trouble to the staff.So aiming at the limitation of the present system for protective relaysetting, on the basis of analyzing the present situation and development trend of existing CAD technology for substation and distribution station, the system for protective relay setting on substation and distribution station is amply described and studied in this article, the object-oriented graphic intelligent design ideas, methods and technology solving schemes for protective relay on substation and distribution station is also metioned. This system takes database as its core,applies the advanced technologies of visual programming,OOP,computer graphic processing and modularization, combine the protective setting with fault analysis, and incorporates graphics and data together to implement the integrated desigh of protectionsetting for substation and distribution station. On the basis of intelligent modeling, it is made of five function modules which are data graph inputting, fault analysis, protection programme design, protective relaying setting calculation and file management. The key fuction of datalyzed graphics is realized through the second exploitation of AutoCAD by Visual Basic.Finally, an example calculating a station protection setting shows the validity and right of the system modern and program. By using of this system, it can reduce the labor of protection setting people and evidently improve the efficient of the workers. It also ensure the security of the station.
