With the increasing growth of Chinese national economy,the shortage of energy and resource has already became a serious problem, among which the building energy conservation and environmental problem are the most important issues. Over the past period of time, attention has been gradually paid to urban building energy efficiency; however, it has not been concerned enough in rural area. The huge population and increasingly improved living standard will lead to the increasing building energy consumption. And the transportation loss of electric power and other energy sources in rural area is more than those in the urban area. At the same time, there are more low-grade energy sources such as groundwater in rural area. As a result, the application of groundwater air-conditioning is a direct and effective measure to improve the rural building environment, relieve the energy shortage and protect the environment.The background and practical meaning of groundwater air-conditioning was presented firstly in this paper, and then the stage of study on groundwater air-conditioning, its definition and the characteristic was reviewed.Base on the design and built of experiment system, the operation effect of groundwater air-conditioning system and thermal comfort was tested. It was proved that the air temperature of air-conditioning room could be effectively reduced and the humidity could also maintain in an acceptable range when the system was running. Additionally,thermal comfort of the room was also improved. During operation period, the system COP was 5.9, which was higher than other air-conditioning systems. This system is a green air-conditioning system that can be energy-conserving.The theory and calculation steps of wet-dry conditions equivalent method were introduced in this paper, and the cooling capacity in different conditions of FCU was calculated by using this method. The thermal performance curves of the FCU working under mutative conditions were obtained. Moreover, a reliable academic evidence for the design and choice of groundwater air-conditioning system's FCU was also given in this paper.The method of analyzing potential of groundwater air-conditioning system was put forward in this paper, which was applied to analyze the potential in provincial cities and municipalities in China. This new attempt was used to evaluate the groundwater air-conditioning potential of each rural area, provide evidence for the choosing of FCU and give a reference to establish new relevant standards and criterions.Finally, on the base of summarizing the design and construction experience of domestic and overseas groundwater air-conditioning systems, with the paper's research results, the detailed design process of the groundwater air-conditioning system is put forword in the paper. Besides, the norms and standards refers to the design is also included. It is valuable for the design and construction and can be applied to instruct the practice of the groundwater air-conditioning system in the residence in the countryside.
