Developing with the infomation technology, Opto-Electronic (O-E) stabilization and tracking systems play an important role in reconnaissance, navigation and orientation equipments. Torque motor can be linked to the load directly with great torque at low speed, and has been crucial in this mechatronical servo systems for its fast response and fine linearity. The accurate performances of torque motor and the specific dynamic performances of the servo system have significance to the development of O-E stabilization and tracking systems. This paper mainly focuses on the following contents on dynamic performances with torque motor: working principle, operating characteristics and performance testing methods, in order to provide evidences for the motor selection and performance control.Firstly, an automatic motor testing system is designed, which combines an industrial personal computer (IPC) with a data acquisition (DAQ) board. IPC controls the testing process, logic operation and status display; the DAQ board executes the commands sent from IPC, and achieves real-time data acquisition; the software package is developed on the LabWindows/CVI platform. Common direct (DC) current motor, stepper motor can be automatically tested with the system.Adopting the specific testing methods, the basic parameters, mechanical characteristics, and efficiency of the 130LC-1 permanent magnet DC torque tachogenerator unit are tested, and the synchronous performance curve is plotted on the IPC screen. In addition, the experiment results are investigated.Furthermore, from the viewpoint of energy, this paper studies the working principle of permanent magnet DC torque motor, and the motor model is identified by hardware-in-the-loop(HIL). Also the nonlinear friction phenomenon of the motor at low-speed is observed and analyzed, and the friction parameters of Stribeck model is identified. Finally, this paper prospects the future with technology and function achievement.
