The measurement for water depth is an important issue in the field of hydrologic study. With the rapid development of electronic technology, measurement technology and computer control technology, people ask for more and more accurate water depth data, and the measuring instrument develops towards the direction of high accuracy, Digitization, intelligence and miniaturization. This introduces a proposed design on the plunged water depth metering equipment, which mainly includes the following aspects: design principle of liquid-level transmitter, the principle and application of GPS receiver, the realization of USB host way, hardware circuit design which includes power supply circuit, data collecting circuit, clock circuit, printer circuit, LCD circuit, U-disk R/W circuit, serial port circuit, keyboard circuit, software design, Man-machine interface design. This instrument is designed to output data in multi-ways, those water-depth data together with the related datas of date, longitude and latitude can lay the ground for water-depth inspection and underwater topographic plotting. The trial running of this instrument showed that this system can work with high accuracy and reliability and a better choice for measuring water depth of river, lake and reservoir. In addition, for making sure the long-playing running of the system, this thesis improves its reliability in two ways. The selection of the chips, the design of the circuit and the layout of the printed circuit are all taken into full consideration during the hardware design. The reliability of the software is ensured by module coding and abnormity processing. At present this system has been successfully debugged in laboratory and every indicator has fulfilled its requirement.
