With the development and widespread use of the network technology, more and more hydropower plants have set up own intranet or directly connected to internet. On the other hand, in order to arrive at the aim of "no man at work, less man on duty", many plants build up the local hydropower generating units online monitoring and fault diagnosis system. so, if we can integrated the monitoring system with the net, the remote system will be used more conveniently and high efficiently ,according to monitor the running status and predict the trend of long periodic development, it will bring more economic performance.Firstly, this paper discusses the research situation of the online monitoring and fault diagnosis expert system of the hydropower generating sets, for the situation, the author brings forward some own advises and opinions. Then the paper introduces the main work of the subject, including the system's overall structure, the development process. At the same time, it describes the detail of the difficulties you may meet during the development of the system, then gives the solutions.During the fulfillment of the online monitoring system, for embodying the remote property based the internet, and the real-time property, it has carried out a series of discussions; finally, a feasible fulfillment proposal is raised. The fault diagnosis system uses the rule-based reasoning way. With the human backward reasoning, the primary automatic fault diagnosis will be available during monitoring, additionally; it may give some supports for the advanced manual diagnosis lately.According to the fulfill proposal, the author has programmed a set of computer online monitoring system software, and applied the software to hydropower plant already. It also can provide some valuable reference for late development of monitoring system.
