Space truss structure is widely applied in these fields, which involve construction machinery, bridge designing, structures supporting, structures building; many other aspects, like hydraulic launder, lockage gate support, transmission networks are also fit for Space Truss Structure, due to its features: light weight, low cost and simple construction, so space truss structure is playing an increasingly important role in the construction project. By optimizing design of the space truss structure, maximum materials can be saved under the certain conditions, thereby to reduce cost, respond to the advocacy of the Green Community, and has important practical and social significances.At present, the optimum design of the space truss structure mainly includes topological optimization and size optimization. The theory and practical application of the size optimization have tended to be perfect and mature; topological optimization, also called contour optimization or generalized shape optimization, have two methods, which are discrete topological optimization and continuum topological optimization. The current topological optimization of the space truss structure use the discrete method, that is, firstly determine the pitch of the bar using the previous knowledge, then use topological optimization method to make sure whether the bar exists or not. Continuum topological optimization can obtain the structure's optimum shape design based on the known boundary condition and load condition, which is of great theoretical significances.Homogenization based optimization is a mature continuum topological optimization method, based on which the topological optimization module of ANSYS software is developed. In this paper, the topology optimization of the space truss structure is researched by using the capability of the ANSYS. The optimal topology model of three-dimensional continuum structure is established, in which multi-load-cases are considered. Through the model analysis, the optimum topology layout of the space truss structure is obtained and the conceptual design is finished, and some of the problems of using ANSYS to pursue the topological optimization are analyzed and summarized.Size optimization module is also provided by ANSYS software. The optimal size model of space truss structure is established, in which compression bar stability and local stability are considered, through the model analysis, the optimum size of the bar section is obtained. The effect of the bar section to the structure's strength before and after optimizing is compared in tiffs paper.
