The space truss structure originated from the United States, initially applied in the military, and later gradually developed into the industrial and civil buildings. In our country, the space truss first applied in 1964, and nowadays, it has become a major form of roof structure for its weight light, high stiffness, reasonable stress distribution and some other irreplaceable advantages. With the development of space truss, its structure form becomes more and more complicated and diversified. On the one hand, proper methods should be taken to optimize the structure, so as to make better use of the material properties, and the material can reach the most perfect coordination state;on the other hand, complex structure requires more advanced construction management technology to adapt to market demand.This paper is based on the space truss project of the Innovation and Practice laboratory in Dalian University of Technology. In view of the design and construction project of the building roof truss, the stress analysis of the space truss structure and the optimization design of the section size are carried out, and the construction process is simulated with the BIM construction technique.The concrete research contents summarized as follows:(1) In the paper, the large-scale general finite element software ANSYS is used to analyze the stress of the space truss. The maximum stress of each bar and the maximum displacement of each node are calculated under various load cases and its combination. At the same time it is found that the temperature variations have a great impact on the internal force of the space truss so that can not be ignored in the design.(2) We use the optimization module of ANSYS to optimize the size of the space truss project. With the section areas as the design variables, the total volume of the structure as the objective function, We limit the maximum internal force and the maximum deformation of the space truss,so that the total volume can reach the minimum under the condition of satisfying the constraints.(3) According to the actual situation of the space truss form and the construction site,we take the installation scheme of segmentation lifting. First, it is to need to determine the specific block mode of the space truss, and then using ANSYS to check the internal force and the deformation of the lifting stage to ensure the implementation of the scheme.(4) Using Revit to create BIM model. Because the grid structure is more complicated than the uniform grid, and there is no law to follow, so the model is built by the way of the adaptive bar family. Then the model is imported into Navisworks, and the Timeliner tool is used to associate the time parameters of each component, so as to make the installation animation, which can guide the construction process.
