Web Light-Gauge steel joist structure system (Web steel) is a new type of steel structure, coming from Canada with such many advantages as higher standardizing, assigning space flexible, good performance of the seismic resistant, industrialization producing, short Construction period, protecting environment and economizing energy sources et al. This kind of structure has been used mostly in low story residential building for 20 years in North America. It agrees our national estate policy applying Web steel to multiple-story residential building. Web steel has a good future in China.Web steel is made of small trusses and has complex constitution. There is no design standard and code for this kind of structure. Testing and analysis are needed.A series of testing research and finite element analysis were done in Wuhan University of Technology for the Web steel truss beam, truss column, wall and joint. A 6-story Web steel building was designed. The research work was provided as a reference for the popularization and application of Web steel in China. But during the actual project , there are many light-gauge steel and steel frame composite structure which could not to be designed and calculated very good so far.The article according to an actual project 5-story-dormitory, in view of light-gauge steel and steel frame composite structure, a series of finite element analysis were done with SAP2000 and ABAQUS, and the key joints were descripted detailedly . Idiographic work as follows:1. In view of a frame, finite element analysis were done in ABAQUS according to the equivalent stiffness method , this model is called the first model2. In view of a frame, finite element analysis were done in SAP2000 according to the actual beam unit, and the shell unit to simply the outer covering, this model is called the second model3. In view of a frame, finite element analysis were done in SAP2000 according to the equivalent stiffness method to simply the beam unit, and the shell unit to simply the outer covering, this model is called the third model4. In view of a frame, finite element analysis were done in SAP2000 according to the equivalent stiffness method to simply the beam unit, and the beam unit to simply the outer covering, this model is called the forth modelWe can get the displacement under the wind load and the earthquake load , and compare with the code value. The analysis and comparison results prove the model and the analysis method is valid with SAP2000 in the article towards the light-gauge steel and steel frame composite structure; The WEB Steel technique can be used in the multi-storey building. The inter-storey and top horizontal displacement can be smaller than the code values for the WEB Steel building under the wind load and earthquake.From this we can obtains the optimized method to design this kind of structure in the actual project5.
